I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow! Boohoo!
Connor has had a CRAZY growth spurt all weekend…it’s like he has a bottomless pit for a stomach or something. I think this kid has probably gained a pound in just two days! He’s also been sleeping a lot more. I have been very strict on his diet. I had a lot of trouble in the beginning getting him to breastfeed so I have been strictly pumping since we got home from the hospital. It is rough, but I am proud I have been able to stick with it. It’s a LOT of dishes and takes a lot of discipline to get up and make myself pump all the time, a couple cases of mastitis, and pumping in the car a LOT! LOL! It’s definitely had it’s challenges, but my husband has been my biggest supporter and I’m so glad that even though I wasn’t able to breastfeed I didn’t give up and continued to give my baby breast milk. It’s a very personal decision for everyone, and I’m not saying it’s bad at all if you didn’t breastfeed…I am just saying I have worked hard and had several breakdowns to get to his point….it’s definitely harder than I ever thought!
Okay- and with that said I worry about what and when to feed him. Well, not really worrying because I know he is being fed plenty. I don’t want to give him cereal or baby food because American Pediatric Guidelines recommend only breast milk for the first six months. I’m sure that every baby is different and they will be just fine regardless. When did you start baby foods and why?
Proof that he has a bottomless stomach right now….he sprayed my ENTIRE wall here and got pee all over himself (his shirt is soaked!) and all over the changing table. He was like a continuous fountain! Terence tried to cover it up but it kept going and going and going…..
Do you ever wonder what your baby would look like with hair? Here’s Connor toupee…aka…Momma’s hair!
Today we went grocery shopping, to Babies R Us, and we grilled out again for dinner. Of course we had our coffee fix too 🙂 We also had to go to Lowe’s to get a new mailbox because somebody blew up our mailbox yesterday with a firework! Crazy people!!!! Who does that???
We are off to bed and back to work tomorrow 🙁
Hope you all had a good weekend!

I am so impressed that you have gone to such lengths to be able to give your baby breast milk!!! I know how hard that must be. You have a SWEET momma heart!!! I am reminded of pre-Connor posts about how unsure you were of just about everything about being a mom and the end result – you became a mom in every way the day he came to you. So sweet!!!
I hear you on the growth spurt – Cannon too!!! Not so much on the feeding issue but just his size – it seems like every day when I wake up he is bigger!
As far as starting cereal and/or solids…with Brooklynn we started right at 4 months – but she was defintely ready and there was no turning back with her. With Cannon – I don’t think he is ready yet – just isn’t showing all the signs that they say to look for – so we’ll probably be starting a little later with him. I formula fed both babies so not sure about the whole breastfeeding thing and waiting till 6 months. Sorry – can’t offer advice from that perspective 🙂
And I am also sad this long weekend is over – its been wonderful having hubby home to help me ‘referee’ the 3 kiddos all weekend – ha!
oh he’s such a cutie! I can’t wait to meet him! Lauren ate pears and other fruits/veggies at 4 months. But our reasons are probably different than others. She cried ALL the time. I thought I was going crazy. She hated to eat (still does). We thought she was hungry (along with our Pediatrician) because she spit up, etc. It was just horrible. It didn’t hurt her to start early so that’s what we did. I had to put cereal in her bottle to in order to thicken the formula…crazy days I tell ya 🙂
Good for you Becky!! I totally agree…nursing is SO MUCH harder than I EVER thought it could be! I thought it would be super “natural”…not at all! Sticking with it has been one of the hardest things I have EVER done in my whole life!!!
I am nursing and then pumping once at night after the babies go down to build my supply and then also I pump once while I am at work. I never pump enough during my work session to give them what they need (I only pump like 4 oz in my 15 min break, and I technically need 8 because each baby drinks 4), so they sometimes do get formula when my freezer stash gets drained, but I just tell myself that mostly breast milk is better than none at all!!
I think exculisvely pumping would be even harder than nursing! ALL THOSE pump pieces and bottles to wash constantly…ugh! I am so impressed with you!!!! Way to go Momma! =)
someone blew up your mailbox..omg!!!
t-a was just breast milk for the first 3 1/2…..she has a calorie intake issue so we are mostly formula now..but she still has at least 3 bm bottles a day…I’m with ya..lol..i still pump in the car!
my dr. said that i could give t-a cereal at 4 months BUT she eats it with a spoon..never put it in his bottle no matter what people say! she started eating baby food at 5 1/2 months..and she loooooooves it! she just didn’t seem like she was getting full, and it also helps with her increase in calories!
I want to applaud you for keeping up with the breast feeding! I know how hard it can be. I really wanted to give up by three weeks, but have been able to stick with it, too! Pumping is the WORST, though!
I also wanted to let you know about a book I’m reading called “Baby-led Weaning.” I got it off Amazon because it hasn’t been published in the States yet. Anyway, it’s about starting your baby on solids without purees and jars of baby food. Interesting research behind it. If you’re interested, you should check it out, since Connor will be ready for solids before you know it! Six months is right around the corner!
My son is four and a half months old and I started rice cereal in a breastmilk bottle at about three and a half months and then baby foods at four months-in hopes that he would sleep better at night. Did it work? No. Do I regret starting foods a tad early? No, he seems to really enjoy his baby food and he still gets just as much breastmilk. My son gets baby food twice a day around breakfast and before bath time in the evening. Every momma is different so just do what you feel comfortable with. If you have any pointers on sleep, would you please share? We are struggling in that department!

You poor thing. Mastitis is BRUTAL. I had several bouts. Ugh. On a happier note….the lil’ guys is just getting more handsome…if that’s possible!

That is crazy about your mailbox! Yikes!
I say this everytime, but Connor is just so precious! He is growing like a weed! What a cutie though : )
That is just crazy about your mailbox! People are so scary nowadays.
Glad ya’ll had a great 4th!
The picture with the hair is just cracking me up, I can’t stand it! His face is so funny in that picture 🙂
The mailbox story, insane! For real, who does that??!
I love the sleeping picture, so peaceful and precious 🙂
Happy Tuesday, Becky!
xoxo
Yea for you! Your hard work is paying off! He is such a cutie!!
We started rice cereal with Jacob when he was 6mos old putting it in the last bottle of the night. We then went to spoon feeding him rice cereal shortly after that.
I think then around 10mos or so we started introducing stage 1 baby food. He enjoyed both the fruits and veggies.
Once he got the hang of spoon feeding, we substituted one of his bottles for jar food.
Every parent is different. I hate to admit for us it was trial and error, but we finally figured out what works best and went from there.
Now with Levi, we may do a whole different thing. Who knows! 🙂
That first picture is just pure happiness, absolutely beautiful Becky!
We waited until the day or day after Isaac turned 6 months. It’s not an easy road, but you should feel proud no matter how long you last!
